Most of the time when people have a new house constructed they often either let the builder choose the locks or they decide on a lock that is fairly inexpensive that has a brand name that they are familiar with.

The end result is normally a traditional tumbler lock that uses a normal key which despite being advertised as “pick proof” is still vulnerable to vandalism and the new fad of “lock bumping”.

To give so little consideration on securing a new home really does not make any sense to me considering some of the newest lock technologies available for purchase currently. Yet lock makers continue to make these inferior locks based on centuries old technologies and people keep purchasing them with the feeling that their family and homes will be safe.

As I thought about this stuff I felt that maybe it was finally time to look for a replacement lock for our front door. Since I had done some initial research I thought that the following features would be extremely instrumental in making my decision:

  • Vandalism proof
  • Easy to use
  • Temporary user access
  • Reasonably priced

After I don’t know how much time spent researching locks I determined that the lock that offered the most features and more importantly protection was the Sunnect AP501SN door lock. The clincher for me was a glowing in-depth review written by The National Locksmith Magazine that said at the end:

  2. The lock’s key components (motor, batteries, computer chips) mounted on the inside of the door to protect against weather and vandalism
  3. Simple 3-step code registration process (can use from 3 – 20 numbers) and digital keys (up to 20 keys and 1 master key) and easy deletion of any lost or misplaced keys from the lock’s computer
  4. Cannot duplicate lost or stolen keys
  5. Standard installation with a Phillips screwdriver and guaranteed to fit any standard American door

I have never ever seen a lock that could be shot at and still work and to me that is icing on the cake!

After looking around I determined that the best deal was at Amazon.com because I have purchased many things from them and I have never had a problem. Ordering from the site is a piece of cake. Many times they have the cheapest price and they have free shipping too and returning stuff is easy as well.
